Summer Trip to The Westin Riverfront Resort & Spa Avon, Vail Valley

Beaver Creek Colorado, Mountain Towns, Travel

We have visited the Westin Riverfront in Avon, Colorado for ski season a number of times which is why we were so excited to finally visit in summer. I have been eyeing this giant pool for ever and I finally got to enjoy it in all its glory.

The Westin is in the middle of full renovation dubbed “The Next Chapter”, the lobby has been totally renovated and redecorate to create more room to relax and enjoy the fire places and The Lookout Bar. The athletic club and spa just completed at $500,000 renovation and a new adventure center will open this winter and in spring 2024 a rooftop bar! This rooftop will be the place to be in the Vail Valley – I can’t wait!

This post will go into details about the Westin Riverfront and all it has to offer, if you are planning a winter trip check out this post with all the Winter details for the Westin Riverfront Beaver Creek.

The Westin Riverfront Hotel Rooms

The Westin Riverfront offers a number of traditional hotel rooms but the “Studios” and up include a fireplace and kitchenette, the bigger the room the bigger the kitchen set up. Each room is undergoing a refresh expected to be finished by winter 2024, think new flooring, artwork and bathroom updates. We have always staid in a studio suite and its been plenty of room for us.

Pro Tip: Request a pool or resort facing room so you can enjoy this view!

The Westin Riverfront Pool & Spa

This 25 yard lap pool has been calling my name for years and I finally got to enjoy it! The outdoors space at the Westin are so thoughtfully done with lots of lounge areas, fire pits and places to eat comfortably at a table (vs slouching in a too low chair).

Even with a almost fully booked hotel the pool deck wasn’t crowded and everyone had a chair! Besides the lap pool the pool qrea also features 3 oversized hot tubs facing the mountains. These are my favorite hot tubs in the Vail Valley and I have had the privilege of trying a a few!

The Spa recently got a makeover and is such a relaxing modern space. The spa is well known in the area so I highly recommend booking a service here. The gym is huge and includes everything you could possibly need. Including daily yoga classes.

The Restaurant at Westin Riverfront

The Westin Riverfront really has everything you need to eat & drink – you really don’t even need to venture out!

Grab & Go breakfast and lunch are available at The Riverfront Market which also includes everything you need for cooking in room – think breakfast essential and pasta dinner, beer & wine, candy games and all the personal necessities you might have forgoten.

For post activity drinks head to the The Lookout Bar, we enjoyed dinner here with live music in the lounge and post dinner drinks o the expansive patio by a fire pit.  Highly recommend the wings and margaritas!

The Pool Bar is your warm weather oasis. Killer burgers and tacos right off the grill and a selection of frozen drinks. We soaked up the sun and frozè as we jumped between the pool and hot tubs.

Stoke & Rye @ The Westin Riverfront

We were big fans of Richard Sandoval’s Maya Restaurant at the Westin so we were excited to try out his new concept Stoke & Rye. We usually visit in Winter so we had no had a chance to enjoy the giant patio. We ate on the earlier side and essentially had the patio to ourselves to enjoy sunset and the DJ. Our service was wonderful and our waiter recommended some really amazing dishes for us to try.

The homemade dinner roles with rosemary & sea salt, maple-butter were so delicious. We enjoyed a great cheese plate too. If octopus is on the menu we are ordering it and this one did not disappoint. I ordered the Trout and Clay had a filet, they were both cooked to perfection and so flavorful. For desert our waitress recommended the Smoked Chocolate Mason Jar with chocolate ganache, brownie crumbs, cacao nib, salted caramel ice cream, and wow just wow, a must order!

The Westin Riverfront Sustainability

The Westin Riverfront takes sustainability seriously – as everyone should. I wanted to call out a few things that I saw around the resort that made me smile!

  • Refillable water bottles in each room – water is essential at high elevations and most hotel give you two plastic water bottles so loved seeing these refillable aluminum water bottles that are also infinitely recyclable
  • Biodegradable utensils at the pool
  • Recycling option in each room
  • Garden – The hotel grows their own vegetables and herbs right next to the pools

Summer & Fall activities in Avon & Vail Valley

“Come for the winter, stay for the summer” Summer in Colorado is magical and the Vail Valley offers so many amazing adventures. When the leave start to turn in mid September you are smack dap in the middle of some gorgeous aspen groves.

  • Beach & SUP at Nottingham Park – Just a 5 minute walk from The Westin this beautiful park has a lake for swimming, fishing and SUPping – also a playground!
  • Spend a day at Piney River Ranch – SUP, fly fish, hike and grab lunch at the lodge
  • Summer Hike – Shrine Ridge Trail gives your amazing views and wildflowers in a relatively short hike
  • Fall Hike – Enjoy Beaver Creek resort then hike the Village to Village trail through aspen groves
  • Fly Fishing – You can fish right in front of the hotel on the Eagle River! However, I highly recommend hiring a guide like Vail Valley Anglers and let them lead the way. A float trip on the Upper Colorado is a great adventure
