2020/2021 Update – We visited the Westin Riverfront in early December and it was amazing. Eagle County still has indoor dining open so it honestly felt so normal, and safe all weekend. We skied, hot tubed, ate out with friends, I even got a pedicure and worked out! Sipping margs or red wine by the fire felt like a real vacation – perfection! This year, The Westin has added a really cool Riverfront Market with literally everything you could need during your trip from booze and games to groceries and breakfast burritos and sandwiches to go! The Westin’s Restaurant Maya is also open and has built out a giant patio that is heated if you are more comfortable eating outside. And everything can also be ordered delivery to your room! See photos and more info in the rest of the post!

Maya’s Outdoor Seating
2019 – For the second year in a row, I kicked off our ski season with a weekend at The Westin Riverfront Resort & Spa in Beaver Creek. While Beaver Creek may be the furthest drive from Denver, of the Epic Pass Resorts, the extra twenty minutes are worth it for the great snow and smaller crowds. Beaver Creek is honestly one of our favorite places to ski in Colorado!
Westin Riverfront’s Avon Location
The Westin Riverfront is located in Avon just down the hill from the ski area of Beaver Creek. While you are not in the thick of resort you have easy access to restaurants and bars in Avon and only a few minutes from the resort.
Getting to the mountain – Take a short gondola to a lift that will take you to our favorite area of Beaver Creek – Bachelor Gulch, from there you can access the rest of the mountain and Arrowhead. You can also ride the complimentary shuttle that will take you to the base of Beaver Creek.
Proximity to Restaurants & Bars – Beaver Creek Resort (IMO) is more of a family-friendly ski resort so the nightlife is minimal but down in Avon, you have easy access to great bars and restaurants in not only Avon but Edwards, Minturn, and Vail.
If you want to access the main village of Beaver Creek there is a complimentary shuttle that runs on the hour, so whether you’re looking to ski, go catch a show at Vilar Performance Arts Center or grab dinner it’s super easy to get around from The Westin.
The Westin Hotel Rooms Have Kitchenettes
I repeat each room has a kitchenette! Having a stovetop to make eggs in the morning or heat up dinner makes a long trip so much easier. While you are very close to a grocery store in Avon the Westin’s Riverfront Market has all the essentials too – like eggs! So if you’d rather order in or cook you can do that easily.
When coming up for a weekend trip, make breakfast in the room. Order a sammie to-go from the Riverfront Market (cheaper than on the mountain) then ski back and indulge in an après ski and dinner at the Maya.
The Westin Riverfront Vibe & Restaurants
Over the past few years, I have had the privilege of staying in some of the best ski lodges in Colorado. And what really makes a hotel/lodge stand out to me, is the common area. I know this may sound weird but for some reason at a ski lodge’s the common area, aka the living room of the hotel is where everyone wants to hang!
After a long day of skiing, you want hot chocolate and cookies for the kids and a margarita and chips for the adults – plus a roaring fire. With a “The Lookout” lobby bar and multiple lounges and fireplaces to accommodate large groups, The Westin Riverfront hits the mark on all of these.
If there was ever a spot in Beaver Creek to get your margarita to fix it would be at the Westin’s Maya by Chef Richard Sandoval. Pop over for a happy hour or book a table for dinner with friends. This place will be hopping all night with out of towners and locals alike. We ate and drank like kings with tableside guac and chorizos that were out of this world. Oh and the queso is perfect!
The Westin Riverfront Pool & Spa
The second, and arguably more important than a killer communal area, is the hot tub situation. The Westin Riverfront has a heated outdoor saltwater lap pool and three infinity-edge hot tubs overlooking the Eagle River.
A view like this is hard to get in the Vail Valley a lot of resorts especially in Vail bump right up against one another, giving you a view of another person’s condo. The Westin gives you great views and plenty of hot tub options so you can go it solo or make friends and play a game of heads up while drinking red wine out of plastic cups.
Besides the killer hot tubs, the hotel offers a full-service spa and gym, ski valet, and is pet-friendly! Besides the Maya, the Westin also has on-site Starbucks and a great cafe The Lift which is perfect for breakfast or lunch, and plus you can get Riverfront Pizza delivered to your room. Yall this pizza is SO good. We have ordered it each visit!
