Roadtrip to Snowmass with Chevy Bolt EV

Snowmass Colorado, Mountain Towns, Travel

When Chevy reached out to see if I wanted to take their electric vehicle Chevy Bolt EV for a spin I thought “hmmm this could be interesting!” So I started googling around, reading reviews, and digging in on how exactly the Chevy Bolt EV works. Turns out you can get around 250 miles on one charge! Do you know what’s around 258 Miles from Denver? Snowmass! Clay and I had such a great trip there this summer we were dying to go back this fall.

So we packed our bags, snacks, golf clubs, and two dogs into the Chevy Bolt EV and hit the road! We honestly had the best time. Driving the Bolt EV is kind of this fun game calculating where you will need to charge, watching the engine “regen”, and gain miles as we went downhill. Whenever either of us drove we would say things like “Okay 129 miles at the top of the hill…. Woah! 134 miles at the bottom – awesome!” ha!

Neither of currently drives an Electic Car but we 100% see us buying on in the future. The future is green and having everyone drive electric cars is part of that. I also come from a Chevy family of Tahoes and suburban. I got a Tahoe when I was 16 and drove it till last winter so almost 15 years and I was still in great condition when I sold it. Remember I am from Atlanta so I had a 2 wheel drive Tahoe in Colorado for about 8 years! Anyway, it’s exciting to see Chevy building the cars of our future.

Planning your trip with My Chevy App

Roadtripig in the Chevy Bolt EV takes some work, it’s not always a simple point A to B on longer trips… you have to plan around charging stations or what I like to call mini-adventures. Before we left I mapped out a few charging stations along our route. I knew the fastest charges were DC so I used the Chevy app to find them and then I researched restaurants and things to do nearby aka mini-adventures!

The My Chevy app will also connect to the Bolt EV and map out your journey for you taking into consideration how you’re driving, the road conditions, and weather. For example, from our house in Denver, the Chevy App said we could make it all the way to Basalt before charging for 10 mins on a DC charger and then continuing on to Snowmass.

However, as we hit stop and go traffic in Idaho Springs, the app recalculated and told us to stop in Frisco or Eagle for a charge.

The app continues to monitor your battery letting you know how much battery you will have by the next available charger you might want to use. For example, if we charged in Frisco the battery would be at 45% on arrival but only 14% by Eagle. So we chose to stop in Frisco rather than push forward on a lower charge.

Once you are on your route the app will also tell you how long you need to charge to continue your journey. Example – Charge for 20 minutes in Frisco or 45 mins in Eagle.

As I said, it’s a fun game to map out your trip. Around town, driving is super easy, while in Snowmass we charged overnight at our hotel and were good to go all day.

If you are in the market for a new car give the Chevy Bolt EV a spin! I don’t think you will be disappointed!
