When I explained what I was looking for, everyone responded with things like massage, facial, meal plan or someone to do all the laundry. When you become a new parent, time disappears, and while you are creating sweet memories with your little one, daily chores like grocery shopping and cleaning easily pile up. So while these material gifts are lovely for your new mom, we love the gift of time. Time to ourselves so we can fill our cup, and in turn better fill everyone else up. And time to focus on the baby without all the worries or maintaining a house or getting ready to go back to work.
IMPORTANT! that does not mean asking mom (or dad) what can you do; half the work is the mental gymnastics of figuring out where/when they need help. Just take the inactive and do it. Set up a meal train, order food, and tell them it will be delivered at x time on x date. Get the spa gift card and offer to watch the kids while they go enjoy themselves.
New Mom Gift Idea
Go for Cozy – Those first few weeks will go by in a blur, so why not make it an extra comfortable blur! Cozy pajamas and loungewear that are pumping and nursing friendly (look for something that buttons down. My two favorite brands are Lake Pajamas and Eberjey. I love these Teva slippers that have actual soles, so when you need to run out or take out the trash, you can do it in these.
Hands-Free – Your hands are full, so why not free up some space with an apple watch and earbuds. You can feed baby while answering the phone easily and don’t spend 15 minutes wandering the house looking for your phone with a crying baby. You will be taking 1000 photos and videos a day so upgrade to the newest phone of their choice too. This iPhone case is not only cute but made of recycled materials too!
Mom Glow up – Pregnancy & postpartum is a wild times. I was ready to get back to feeling myself, which meant taking time on my skincare routine and easing back into working out. I have a full post on pregnancy and nursing-safe skincare here – even now that I’m not nursing, I still love these products. Fun fact your hair falls out during and after pregnancy – yay! Nutrafol makes a nursing-safe hair loss supplement that has really helped with some bald spots I had. Melissa Wood Health postpartum exercise classes were the best introduction back into movement and I love doing those classes with my Bala Bands. Looking to get mom a spa day – I personally love a Delaplane facial or Hydrofacial.
Taking Cara Babies – I knew next to nothing about caring for a baby and I found the Taking Cara Babies class incredibly helpful and recommend it to every new parent! Learn more about the class here.
