Agua Amarga is a small beach town that is really off the beaten path for tourists or at least English tourists. My good friend’s family is from the area and her parent’s bought the house we stayed in when she was little, so instead of visiting east coast beaches in summer they went to Spain – sounds dreadful right!
For years we heard about this beach town and it was such a treat to finally visit. This is truly a little Spanish beach town where next to no one speaks English and no menus are in English. There is a little town square that is packed and lively all night long.
We really got into the Spanish way of life sleeping in, spending all day on the beach, taking a siesta around 3pm and heading back to the beach at 5pm and not coming back until 9pm. It is seriously light until 10pm in the summer so everyone was on the beach till sunset.
Fun Fact some of the dragon scenes in Game of Thrones were filmed here! The town and beach are stunning, I could have spent a week here just being lazy and be happy as a clam.
We went snorkeling every day but on our last day, we rented kayaks at (6 pm!) to explore the surrounding coves with small beaches and caves. Some areas were shallow for us to get out and do some more snorkling.
