The Best Pizza in Denver, According to Me
As a self-proclaimed pizza connoisseur, it’s high time I put together a list of my favorite pizzas across town. To be totally honest, there are still so many I have not tried so this is not a complete list. Just what I have had and loved so far. Still, very much market research to do!
Note that these are not in any particular order!
This post was originally published in 2019 but has been updated and recirculated for 2023.
Blue Pan Pizza
Highlands & Congress Park
Blue Pan Pizza takes the cake as my favorite pizza in Denver. For my 29th birthday party, I had an epic girls-only garden party with about eight different pizzas from Blue Pan. I love a good Sicilian pizza, so their Detroit square-style prima is drool-worthy. These are award-winning pizzas y’all! I am always torn between Parma Italian Detroit Style or the Italian-style Gold Hill.
Kaos Pizza
South Pearl Street
Kaos was the first pizza I ever had in Denver! Even after living a block away for 4 years, Kaos is still one of my favorites. This little house has a huge garden/patio area that is pure perfection on a sunny day. My favorite pizza is the Garden Pizza, but I always check the board for that week’s specials. I think Kaos might have been the first time I ever had an egg on my pizza, too!
Cart Driver
RiNo & LoHi
Pizza and Oysters… I mean is there a better meal? This tiny joint in RiNo serves some of the best wood fire pizza in Denver. Cart Driver’s specialty menu is limited but each one is seriously delicious.
Cart Driver in Lohi is much more spacious and has an awesome sunny patio! Currently, they are also offering greenhouse seating too!
Colore Italian Restaurant & Pizzeria
South Broadway/Englewood
This Italian spot is right down the street from our house and it took us over a year to try it out. Clay and I finally went to Colore on a date night and had some amazing pasta so the next time we were craving pizza we ordered takeout. Yummmmm y’all! Amazing pizza so close to home and we had no idea! I, of course, had the prosciutto, and Clay had the carne.
Osteria Marco
Downtown/Larimer Square
Y’all, everything is so, so good at Osterio Marco. I love their salads, sandwiches, and pizzas. Oh, and the burrata is fire. There is nothing I love more than sitting on this patio on a sunny day drinking rose, eating burrata, and their prosciutto pizza. I also love their wild mushroom & robiola pizza and I’m pretty sure I had a seafood pizza there once that rocked my world. Most of the seating is downstairs so if it’s snowing/raining this is the perfect place to go. It was in this very restaurant that I told my BFF a few names I had been tossing around to name my blog and we decided on Blue Mountain Belle!
Esters
Virginia Village, Park Hill, Wheat Ridge
Clay drove past Ester’s on his way home from work and insisted we go check it out. A pleasant surprise for us – the pizza is not only so good, it’s Phish-themed! Get it? Ester’s! While most people wouldn’t notice, every specialty pizza is a Phish song! Hehe. A second location just opened that is huge! Great spot for groups and game days with plenty of TVs. On our last trip to Ester’s, Clay and I fell in love with our pizza orders. I had the Prince Caspian and Clay had the Lawn Boy.
Cattivella
Stapleton
Clay and I ended up at Cattivella after the spot we went to in Stanley Market Place had a wait. What a deliciously serendipitous turn of events! Did I use that word correctly, John Cusack? Maybe? Oh well. Cattivella is a fine Italian restaurant by Chef Elise Wiggins, formerly of Panzano’s, one of the premier Italian restaurants in town. Wiggins has created an incredible restaurant. We sat at the kitchen bar and had probably one of my favorite meals and dates in Denver. We chatted with the kitchen staff and ate delicious mussels. Our Speck, Sunny Egg, and Smoked Mozzarella pizza was out of this world good. Goodness, I need to eat this again ASAP.
White Pie
Colefax
We ate at White Pie last fall and I have been dying to go back since and eat like 8 more of these pizzas. YUM!
Cheap/Jumbo Slide Pizza
Famous J’s Pizza
Five Points
From the guy who brought us real New York bagels, we can now get NY Pizza with Famous J’s. I have grabbed a slice, from their walkup window in 5 points here a few times and have never been disappointed. But I have still yet to try their Grandma (Sicilian) slice.
Brooklyn’s Finest Pizza
Berkley Park/Regis, 16th Street Mall
WOW this pizza is so good. With 3 locations around town, you gotta try it. Hands down my new favorite pizza in the neighborhood plus they have killer lunch specials = think a slide + Drink. I love their little Italian pizza pictures here.
Anthony’s Pizza
Downtown, DU, Cap Hill + other locations
Anthony’s is the only pizza place in town I have found with Sicilian Slice. When I worked closer to the Union Station location I went way too often. Perfect cheap slice with a Diet Coke.
Two-Fisted Mario’s
Downtown
This is my go-to slice close to work. Extra cheese and mushrooms and a fountain Diet Coke – yum! The pizza is thin, crunchy, and light on cheese.
Fat Sully’s
South Broadway, Colfax, Tennyson
Fat Sully’s was a hangover staple in my 20s. One large pizza with bacon and mushrooms can last two 20-year-olds for days! They basically know us by name. There are a few locations around town and it shares the same space as Denver Biscuit Company and Atomic Cowboy.
Cosmos
Denver/Boulder/Fort Collins
Cosmos = jumbo slice pizza and spicy ranch. When I gave up cheese for Lent in college, this was the first pizza I had afterward when I was visiting Boulder over Easter break.
Jimanos
South Broadway/Englewood
Jimanos pizza spot is down the street from our house and turns out delicious thin crust pizza cut in rectangles. Clay and I order this on very lazy Saturday mornings.
Sexy Pizza
South Pearl, Cap Hill, Lohi
Thank you to the reader that pointed out that I was missing Sexy Pizza!! Sexy Pizza was my neighborhood slice joint for years and the perfect hangover cure. While I really don’t like the name the pizza is solid.
Denver Pizza Company (Delivery Only)
Golden Triangle, Mayfair
Years ago a girlfriend turned me on to Denver Pizza Company. REALLY good pizza, but it’s delivery only. I recently tried their gluten-free pizza and would eat it again and again. C/O
