A friend sent along this wonderful interview from Jambands.com with Galadrielle Allman, Duane Allman’s Daughter. They discuss his life, legacy and the brand new Allman Brothers box set Sky Dog. You can read the interview here. The quote above is from Duane’s diary written 2 years before his death at age 24. The words really resonate with me, and I hope to live by them.
I asked my oldest brother for The Allman Brother’s C.D. A Decade of Hits 69-79 for Christmas when I was in the 6th grade. I have been a huge fan ever since. Oddly enough the first track on the album “Statesboro Blues”, now a favorite, was my least favorite song. I think I disliked it so much because it was live, and when your thirteen live recordings sounded weird and harsh to teeny-bopper ears. Instead, I listened to “Blue Sky” on repeat and played air guitar in my room. To this day it is my hands down favorite song of all time. This album turned me on to so much great classic rock and really shaped my musical taste, so thanks Spence!
