Khruangbin… Khruangbin… any idea how you might pronounce that? Well unless you have seen this West Texas band in concert, where they actually teach the entire audience how to pronounce their name… you will never get it. The G is silent. So its sounds more like Krun – Bin but fast, Krunbin.
So now that you got the name down let’s talk about how amazing their music is. I stumbled across this band on Spotify back in 2015 and added their song “Dern Kala” to my Stared Playlist. Like most songs on that playlist, I know the music but couldn’t tell you the band or even the name of the song (terrible, I know). SO fast forward to Saturday night of Lockn’, and my Gf is telling me that I have to go to this late night with them. I told her I had never heard of them, and she replied with “Yes you have, they are on your Starred Playlist!” Touche Melanie, touche.
So off we went to The Woods stage to see Khrugabin. Lockn’ was jam packed with amazing concerts but Khurgabin might have been the best show I saw all weekend (besides Phish and the Dusters). Comprised of Laura Lee on Bass, Mark Speer on Guitar, and D.J. on Drums these three create beautiful psychedelic Thai Funk. One moment you are totally chilled out and the next you are up and grooving.
I was lucky enough to catch them at Larimer Lounge a few weeks later and pick up a signed poster. Not only do I love their music, but I love all their artwork and their over-all look.
They are currently touring the UK and Europe but will soon play a string of shows in Texas, If you can make it GO.
