What to Wear (and pack) for Camping in Colorado

What to pack camping in Colorado

What To Pack For Camping in Colorado

Camping is one of the best parts of living in Colorado. 90% of the time we are car camping and I have a full post on how we keep it kinda luxury here. For this post, I want to break down exactly what I pack to keep myself comfortable during Colorado’s warm summer days and cool nights.

Day-Time What to Pack

  • Quick-dry shorts/Hiking Shorts – I love my Patagonia baggies and prAna arch shorts
  • Sports bra
  • T-shirt/tank
  • Cute outfit – Of course, I bring a cute lewk! You may spend a day bopping around town and don’t need to be in workout clothes
  • Sweater – For when it’s overcast, a little windy or just sunset (Not sustainable but an all-time favorite Loft light pullover + just got this sustainable one from Athleta)
  • Light jacket – The Patagonia Houdini jacket is great to have on you at all time if the temperature starts to change or the wind picks up
  • Hat – Baseball cap or sun hat or both 🙂

Night – What to Pack

  • Leggings – I just got these base layer leggings from Half-days and they are so soft but very warm and comfortable. I will be packing these for every trip.
  • Jeans – When it’s really chilly I wear these or layer up to stay warm
  • Long Sleeve – I have found I am most comfortable sleeping in a long sleeve shirt as my shoulder stay covered in the sleeping bag
  • Pullover
  • Puff
  • Rain/Wind jacket
  • Wool socks
  • Closed-toe shoes – I usually just put on my hiking boots as the temperature drops or socks and chaos
  • Beanie
  • Gloves
  • Socks

Shoes

  • Hiking boots are comfortable to for hiking and walking around the campsite at night when the temperatures drop
  • Chacos – I love my chaos! Nothing better than putting your chaos on after a hike too. Chilly just add socks!
  • Tennis shoes – sometimes you just want to slip something on to go to the bathroom at night and that when I reach for my tennis shoes

Sleeping Bag 101

Sleeping bags are made to be worn with little clothes so that you and the sleeping bag heat each other. So you want to strip down, however, I find that I am most comfortable in leggings, a long sleeve shirt, socks, and a beanie. Heat escapes through your head so if you run cold a bean is key. I have this very soft loose one that I actually pull all the way down over my eyes like a facemask ha.

  • Thermal leggings (I really love Half Days – great for skiing and camping)
  • Wool Socks
  • Beanie
  • Long-sleeve top

Camping Toiletries

When camping, try and bring toiletries and cleaning products that are bio-degradable. For example, your normal toothpaste is not so when you spit out that toothpaste it just stays there forever. Rince it away and all that minty goodness stays. Refresh your Leave No Trace principles here.

  • Face wipes – biodegradable
  • Deodorants
  • Toothbrush & Toothpaste – dr brokers
  • Lotion
  • Sunscreen
  • Contacts + Extra contacts – you will never regret having a spare pair of contacts
