While visiting the Mile High City you don’t have to skimp on your workout routine. Denver offers numerous activities to keep your heart rate up and your Fitbit goals on track. Here are five unexpected ways to stay active while enjoying all Denver and the Front Range has to offer.

Civic Center Moves – Monday through Friday, the Civic Center Conservancy offers free exercise class for all skill levels. Classes are held either in the Civic Center Park or in the beautiful McNichols Building (144 W Colfax Ave, Denver, CO 80202). Classes include yoga, strength training, speed and agility training and circuit training. Learn more about these free classes here.

Paddle Around – When the temperature hits 90 degrees, don’t fret- this land lock state has plenty of places for you to cool off! Head to the original REI in downtown Denver (1416 Platte St, Denver, CO 80202) and learn to kayak at Confluence Park. For a more relaxing water excursion, rent a paddleboard and explore the numerous reservoirs surrounding Denver.

Surfs Up – City Surf Fitness, located in LoHi (2525 15th St #1d) and Uptown (2525 15th St #1d), is a surfing-inspired group workout class. Denver is the third outpost for this creative studio is the perfect place to test the waters (all the puns intended). Plus your first class is total free so you’ve got nothing to lose. Learn more about City Surf here.

Denver Cruisers – Not all Denver fitness actives have to be about breaking a sweat. They can be fun, goofy and booze filled too. On Wednesday nights from May to September the Denver Cruisers own the streets of the Mile-High City. Riders can join this biker gang at a number of points throughout the city and bar hop across town in full costume while accompanied by blaring music and neon lights. Learn more about Denver Cruisers here.

Hiking Trails – A trip to Denver isn’t complete without spending some time in the mountains. The Front Range offers a variety of hikes for every skill level.

Eldora Canyon – Located just south of Boulder, the Rattlesnake Trail in Eldorado Canyon is a moderate hike that leads to beautiful views of the Front Range. After your hike, take a dip in the historic Eldorado Springs Resort pools (294 Artesian Dr, Eldorado Springs, CO 80025) that originally opened in 1905. Starting in the 1980s the crystal clear water was bottled and is still sold today as, you guess it, Eldorado Springs Water.

St. Mary Glacier – For breathtaking views in fewer than two miles, St. Mary’s is the perfect afternoon adventure from the city. Just north of Idaho Springs on Fall River Road is St. Mary’s Glacier. Since the glacier is actually a permanent snowfield, don’t be surprised to walk past a few snowboarders and skiers trying to get a few turns in.

Isabelle Glacier – The Brainard Lake Recreational area (Brainard Lake Rd, Ward, CO 80481) outside Boulder is home to a plethora of scenic hiking trails. Take the Long Lake Trail to Lake Isabelle and you’ll find yourself in one of the most stunning alpine lakes in the Front Range. The turquoise waters surrounded by jagged peaks make the Indian Peaks Wildness a favorite destination for adventurers year-round.
