48 Hours or Less: San Francisco

San Francisco Travel, United States

If it’s your first trip to San Fran, you probably already have a laundry list of touristy places to visit. And you should! Fisherman’s Wharf, Lombard Street and Alcatraz are all really worth the trip. But if looking for something a little more local read on…

Live Like a Local

Wake up early and start your day with a walk or hike around the Presidio. Originally built-in 1776, by the Spanish, the fort was used by the US Military until 1994 when it turned into a National Park. Today, the park is fully self-sufficient and run by the Presidio Trust. The park features miles of hiking trails, cultural and event centers, restaurants, shopping, offices and a golf course. You can even live at the park by leasing one of the many homes on the property. Learn more here.

After your hike, grab an Uber and head to Tong Kiang for a traditional Dim Sum breakfast. You will be seated at a table and almost immediately servers carrying trays of dumpling and more will come by. To order just take some of whatever comes by! A server will mark a sushi like menu on your table with what they have served you. Eventually, your table will begin to fill up so sometimes you might just need to say no to the next server that comes by. Dim Sum is the best! I loved basically everything I tried and have found a new Dim Sum Spot in Denver (Star Kitchen).

Now that you are totally stuffed, time to grab your bikini (weather permitting) head back through the Presidio to the Crissy Field or Baker Beach.

Foggy, Brisk Day?

Walk off the dumplings by heading to Sacramento Street for shopping. Hike up any cross street on to the top of Pac Hights, enjoy the views and guess who lives in each of these beautiful homes.

Head downtown for dinner at Leo’s Oyster Bar this tropical seafood joint feels right out of Havana, the decor is beautiful, service spectacular and food just as good. Of course, the seafood tower is the item of choice.

Sunday book a matinée ticket at the longest running musical in San Fransisco. Beach Blanket Babylon is a falling out of your chairs laughing, over the top musical. A mix of long-standing songs and SNL type skits on current events. Seriously, crying laughing funny that everyone in my family loved.

If your hungry the “World’s Best Pizza” is right around the corner at Tony’s. Or go to San Fran staple for steaks and pasta, Original Joe’s. (also great for groups!)

After the show when that sweet tooth hits head to Stella’s Pastry or some of the best pastries in the city.

In town for the Holidays?

Head downtown to the beautiful Palace Hotel for tea in the Garden Court. The hotel is beautifully decorated for the holidays and the Tea service is fun, and actually really yummy. Besides the obvious tea, we drank champagne and I ate all the snacks.

Where to Stay:

The Inn at The Presidio is a beautiful inn tucked inside the Presidio. You will either need a rental car or be okay ubering.

Is another favorite is the Drisco Hotel in Pac Heights. This hotel is also set in a more residential area but has more access to shops and restaurants than the Inn at The Presidio.
