Hiking Bear Creek Trail in Telluride, Colorado

Trip: Hiking
Length of Trip: Half Day
Trail: Bear Creek Trail
Length: 4.5 Miles RT
Elevation Gain: 1,000+

While I have only done a few hikes around Telluride Bear Creek Trail is pretty perfect. The trailhead starts right in town, which makes for an easy morning hike before heading to lunch or brunch. The trail is 4.5 miles round trip with a steep but short incline at the end to get up to the base of the falls. Worth it to get these incredible views!

Guide to Bear Creek Trail in Telluride, ColoradoBear Creek Trail meanders through aspen groves before making a steep but assent to the base of the 80 foot Bear Creek Falls. The view looking back at Telluride is gorgeous. We hiked this in early September before the leaves had turned but this would be a great fall hike. Read more about the hike on All Trails.

Be sure and check out my guide to Telluride for my favorite restaurants and other hikes!

Telluride is absolutely beautiful and beautiful in a way that no other mountain town in Colorado can compare. Telluride sits in a Box Canon meaning you enter from a tiny slit in a 4 walled canyon but this canyon is totally vertical. The San Juans are straight up so wherever you look in Telluride you are looking directly at mountains and then up to the sky. Totally different vista than Breck or Crested Butte where you sit in a wide valley with big skies and big mountains.
