Clay and I have always wanted to learn to fly fish so we decided to bite the bullet and book a guided trip with Crested Butte Angler while in Crested Butte over Labor Day weekend. We are both so so happy we did!
While we have both cast a few times we really didn’t know what we were doing and our guide was super helpful about teaching us how to roll cast, mind, and watch for any hesitation!
We fished along the Taylor River but each wading trip is different as the guides look to see where the best place to go is that day.
About an hour in our guide asked if I was having fun I responded ” Meh, not really, but I’m sure I will once I catch something” about an hour later clay and I both caught one had one hooked and after that, we were both hooked!
Overall we watch caught two fish and Clays first one was huge! Our guide said it was one for the books for sure!
Head here to learn more about Crested Butte Angler and the variety of trips they offer – and btw #notsponsored
And of course, head to my CB guide for other activities + where to stay, eat and drink

I loved this post! We go fishing all year (down rigging) but I’ve never been fly fishing!
