On Saturday, March 31st Clay and I got engaged!!! I am still in shock. We are beyond happy, thrilled & excited right now! The outpouring of love and support from friends, family, followers, total strangers has been incredible, to say the least.
To be honest, I was scared I wasn’t going to be surprised. For one, we have been talking about getting engaged a lot recently and since I am a total planner I was having trouble figuring out when it could happen. All of our weekends are basically booked! I thought it may happen in May when we are in Atlanta for a wedding but boy was I wrong. I really just want to write this all down so I can remember every freaking moment of it.
TL: DR We got engaged at the top of Peak 7 in Breckenridge and it was PERFECT!!
Clay and I had been debating heading to Moab for the weekend or just skiing. Moab just seemed like a big last-minute trip so on Monday Clay mentioned us finding an Airbnb for the weekend (!!!) I, of course, started looking ASAP. I found a few spots but a lot were booked by Tuesday night. Clay ended up finding a deal on Booking.com for a room right in Breckenridge so we booked it! In retrospect this was a little odd… we had talked about getting a place before but always decide to just save money, but since it was Clay’s idea I wasn’t stopping him haha.
Friday night we got tacos and margs after work then headed home and watched movies. We were both really excited about our weekend adventure. We had not had a weekend to just the two of us in a while and going on adventures is our favorite thing to do together.
We decided we were in no rush to get up in the morning since we would have two full days of skiing so we slept in, packed, cleaned the house and headed up the hill. When we got to Idaho Springs Clay realized we had forgotten our ski boots. I laughed and told him its okay it was only 9:30 and since there was NO traffic we would be on the hill by 11. Clay later told me he had to try very hard to keep his cool when we had to turn around, but he had told himself it was my day and we were going to do whatever I wanted! LOL!
Once we got to the hill we parked in the F lot and headed up Peak 9. Recently I found out I have Raynolds Disease which basically means your fingers and toes go numb/turn white and it’s super painful and annoying. When we got to the mountain they were already numb so I went inside to warm them up. It was in the 40s partly cloudy and not crowded at all so I suggest we do laps on peak 7 which has some of my favorite runs.
When we got over to peak 7 my fingers were killing me again, so I stopped at the base to go inside and warm them up. Later, Clay told me he was so nervous I was going to be too cold to ski and want to quit before he could propose.
Clay and I were taking the singles line to get up faster and on one ride up alone I thought… maybe Clay’s going to propose this weekend cause it’s just us up here… NAAAAAAA!! After one ride up I told Clay I was hungry and he suggested we do one more run then eat at Pioneers Lodge at the top of peak 7. So down we went and up the singles line again. When we got to the top I was starving. We decided to split chicken fingers and grabbed a spot right by the windows. Clay and I talked discussed our plans for the rest of afternoon – margs and queso at Mi Casa followed by Dinner at Modis! As soon as we booked our hotel I made reservations for my favorite spot in town.
Clay and I are pretty lovey-dovey… we talked about the future and how we loved adventuring together. I noticed some couples outside taking pictures and told him I wanted to do the same. But first I needed to go to the bathroom.
When I came back Clay was standing up and we locked eyes. As I got to the table I said “You know we always have a way of finding each other across the room” both of us just smiling ear to ear at one another. Clay asked if we wanted to put our helmets on and I was like no not for the picture! So we grabbed our stuff walked outside and put it down in a chair.
As we walked toward the area where I wanted a photo Clay turned to me and said: “I have a question for you, Will you be my adventure buddy forever?” As soon as he said “WILL” I thought OMG OMG OMG OMG is he about to propose?!?!
As he finished the question we turned towards each other. At this point I had my phone in my hand ready to hand it to someone to take a picture, in my mind, I was like “Uh, do I take a picture of this? No just put it away!” As I shoved it in my pocket I saw his hand reach into his and pull out a box and get down on one knee.
I was in total shock and yelping haha. The only thing I remember Clay saying is “REBECCA” because he had said “Will you marry me Rebecca Channing Morris” I don’t even know if I said yes I just started kissing him and crying. Someone nearby yelled “Well, what did she say!?” and I yelled “Yes” back!
Clay stood up and I jumped into his arms crying with love and joy. I then gave Clay my RIGHT hand and as he was slipping on the ring I thought “This is the right hand, right? Right… maybe left? Oh well rings on now” It was then Clay told me he had someone taking pictures and I freaked! My only request was to have someone capture the proposal and she did it perfectly. Her name was Rebecca too!
When I had gone to the bathroom Clay had turned to the lady sitting next to us and said: “Hey could you do me a huge favor, I am about to propose to that girl, could you take some pictures?” She said yes and he let her know his code and told her to just keep tapping take as many pictures as possible (good boy!) she decided to go ahead and grab a seat outside so I didn’t even notice!!
We then took a bazillion more photos then realized the ring needed to be on my left hand and took a thousand more haha. We face timed our parents and they were ecstatic, they had been waiting to hear the big news. I called my best friend Kristina and we both freaked out.
We decided we were done skiing and it was time for champagne so we headed down. Since we were on peak 7 and our car was at 9 we had to go down and up and down again to traverse the mountain. I have never been so excited and stressed out skiing. Bouncing between OMG YOUR ENGAGED to DON”T BREAK YOUR LEG! Clay, of course, went off a little jump and wiped out giving me a heart attack. But we made it down the mountain safe and sounds. We moved the car to our hotel and started calling all our family and friends.
We got to Mi Casa and ordered champagne, margaritas and queso! A perfect way for us to celebrate!! We cleaned up and had the most amazing meal at Modis for dinner. Champagne really goes down easy the day you get engaged! I drank a ton and I don’t even really like champagne! We bar hopped and made friends, and danced the night away and liquid lounge. We called it in relatively early but decided to stop at the hot dog place before heading home. I regretted that about 30 mins later.
Clay and I woke up hungover and so in love! We decided to pack up and head home so we could relax for the rest of the day. It was seriously the most perfect weekend. I can’t stop staring at my ring. It was exactly what I wanted and the proposal was PERFECT.
Being the planner I am, I have already started planning some details but have no clue what I am doing so would love to hear any and all wedding advice!! One of my gfs immediately texted me “Now you are a bridal influencer!” LOL! I’m not sure how much ill be posting about our wedding planning yet but I am sure I will do a little! Can’t wait to share more with yall but for now, I just wanna keep celebrating!
