I had decided to live in Denver before ever visiting. I just knew I wanted to be out west. My parents, understandably, thought I was nuts so they sent me to visit a friend already living here to see if I truly liked it. I was dying in DC! Desperate for a smaller city with access to the outdoors and an easy-going lifestyle. But who am I kidding, I’m a shopaholic at heart so I need a sophisticated yet low-key city. I wanted to wear my Birkenstocks and my heels too!
Anyway, on this faithful visit, we drove past Cherry Creek shopping center, and there it was Neiman Marcus. It was then I decided I could live in Denver. Seeing that Neiman’s meant that Denver wasn’t a dusty old cow town, it was a real metropolitan and with fabulous shopping.
Once I moved, I ventured to Cherry Creek to explore my new mall! I stopped dead in my tracks at Steve Madden, no joke. I thought “WTF, These boots are not online? What is this place” Turns out it’s not your typical Steve Madden store but a Freebird By Steven store.
The Freebird brand, still in its infancy, is actually a totally independent company within Steve Madden. They design, build and produce the entire line to sell in their 5 dedicated Freebird stores, Steve Madden stores and at select online retailers. Learning that the entire collection was designed in CO totally makes sense. These shoes fit the Colorado lifestyle to a T. Boho yet practical, rugged but elegant, it’s literally the perfect combination of what makes Denver and Colorados style so unique. Each shoe is entirely hand made so they are all slightly different adding to that Colorado feel.
Two other bloggers and I were invited to come by the store and pick out a complimentary pair of shoes. Seriously, all my blogging dreams have come true. We had the best time trying on different shoes and a ridiculously hard time deciding which ones to take home.
Telluride Bluegrass was the next day so I was looking for a pair of boots I could wear there. Admittedly, I didn’t make it out of the condo in these babies. Too beautiful to wear into a dusty field but they will be perfect for fall.
