Last weekend I finally got to see two of my favorite bands perform.

Band of Horses +My Morning Jacket+ Red Rocks= Heaven

Trumbone Shorty opened the night, getting the crowd grooving. Band of Horses played next. Their music and the strong winds that night set the perfect mood for the evening…kinda dark but with alot of sole. The song “Funeral” holds a special place in my heart and brought me to tears. But My Morning Jacket really blew me away. I have always heard they were a great band live and they are… but they’re more, they are true entertainers. A band who knows how to work a crowd- getting you hyped up for a song or calming you for another. Their choice of covers were on point, Elton John’s “Rocket Man” SO GOOD (check out he video below) and The Clash “Rocking the Casbah”!! My favorite song of the night was “Victory Dance” I just love the base, the lyrics and changing vibe, tempo, beat, something that happens throughout the song. If I hadn’t been catching a 6 am flight to Chicago for Lollapalooza (more on that tomorrow), I would have gone to the Saturday show as well. I heard it was one of their best shows to date, with more great cover choices: George Harrison, Velvet Underground, Curtis Mayfield and THE BAND. They also played “Touch Me I’m Going To Scream Part.2” which is my favorite MMJ song, ugh… until next time.
